Fall 2025 - Spring 2026
This exhibition will explore the intersection of art and medical science, highlighting how creative expression can support healing across various health conditions. The exhibit will showcase five canvas pieces designed to prompt reflection on the connection between art and medicine, emphasizing the therapeutic benefits of artistic engagement.
Art has been shown to improve medical outcomes in a range of conditions. Mandala painting, in particular, has been found to reduce anxiety and chemotherapy-related side effects in breast cancer patients. Art therapy has also demonstrated positive effects in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, reduced anxiety in children and adolescents, and provided emotional support to pediatric oncology patients. Additionally, it has been shown to help university students manage stress, anxiety, and depression.
The goal of the exhibition is to encourage WVU students, faculty, staff, and the public to see art not only as a creative outlet but also as a powerful tool for mental and physical well-being.
