In preparation for the upcoming Artificial Intelligence exhibition at WVU’s Downtown, Evansdale, and Health Sciences Libraries next academic year (2025-26), the Art in the Libraries committee is seeking original (designed by humans OR human-directed AI) 3” button designs to be given away at the exhibit and possibly on display.
Students and student groups are invited to submit up to 5 .jpg designs (saved with your name) at least 72dpi via the online form, along with their name, email, major/year. Student organizations can also submit collectively! All contributing artists will be credited on promotional materials if desired. Submission deadline: April 25, 2025.
Designs can be whimsical, thought-provoking, educational, controversial, critical, dystopian, or utopian. You are only limited by your imagination and the current abilities of generative AI software.
Here are artist submission prompts:
- AI: Friend or Foe? Does AI represent innovation and progress, or does it pose risks to human creativity and autonomy? Submit designs that explore AI’s dual nature—its potential benefits and its darker implications.
- The Aesthetic of Automation From sleek robotics to glitching code, AI has a distinct visual language. How can you capture the essence of artificial intelligence in a compelling design?
- Surveillance & Control AI is shaping how we interact with technology—but at what cost? Create a design that questions privacy, bias, or the influence of automation in everyday life.
- The Future of Work & Identity As AI changes industries, creativity, and even self-perception, what does the future hold? Submit artwork that reflects on automation’s impact on human purpose and identity.
- Glitch in the System Whether playful, eerie, or thought-provoking, AI is not infallible. How can you illustrate the flaws, errors, or unintended consequences of machine intelligence?
This is an opportunity to get creative and explore both the excitement and ethical dilemmas of AI. Submit your designs on the form here and be part of the conversation!
