Inclusive Portrait Project

Artist Kamara Townes with portrait of Regina Charon

About the Project:

WVU Libraries and the West Virginia & Regional History Center received a $5,000 grant from Women of WVU in 2021 to support The Inclusive Portrait Project. The initiative’s goal is the creation of three portraits – one portrait each year for the next three years – painted by a current BFA or MFA student or recent graduate of the WVU program who identifies as female. The portraits will be installed in the Libraries’ Milano and Robinson rooms on a semi-permanent basis and added to the WVRHC’s collection.

The first portrait was painted by artist Anna Allen (WVU BFA 2021) of Victorine Louistall Monroe (below).

The second portrait was painted by artist Julia Zaph (WVU BFA 2022) of Kittie Blakemore (below).

The third portrait was painted by artist Kamara Townes (WVU MFA 2024) of Regina Charon (above).

All three are on display in the Downtown Library Robinson Reading Room.
